The Deltec MC E600 (FREE DELIVERY) Multi Compact External Hang on Protein Skimmer is the ultimate hang on skimmer and since its introduction at the end of 2003 has taken the market by storm. Its new design gives it the flexibility to hang on the side of almost any brand of aquarium, or for it to be used inside or hanging on the outside of a sump. There is a chamber built into the skimmer where media such as RowaPhos or carbon can be used in a sock or bag, and there is even an optional media box available. The performance is as you would expect from any Deltec skimmer, drawing in 300lts of air per hour for maximum waste removal. The Deltec philosophy is that for every 1000 Litres of water in the aquarium that you require 400 - 500 Litres of air per hour to achieve efficient skimming. This makes the MC E600 skimmer suitable for 700 Litres (155 gallons) for a normally stocked reef aquarium or 450 Litres (100 gallons) for a heavily stocked fish only system. The unique feature of the JBL CO2 SET Profi 3 is that it contains a pH control device (JBL Proflora pH-Control). The JBL CO2 SET Profi 3 provides aquatic plants with the vital nutrient, CO2, easily and conveniently creating the ideal conditions for a luxuriant underwater garden. At the same time, by regulating the supply of CO2, the pH level can be adjusted to around 7, the range best suited to the majority of fish and plants. An easily operated precision pressure regulator with pre-set operating pressure enables precise dosages to be made. The CO2 vario diffusion system can be adapted to fit any aquarium height using extension sets (available online). A stock of 500 g of CO2 should last a long time, without the need to changing the gas bottle. The amount of CO2 required depends on the volume of water, the carbonate hardness, the pH value required and the consumption by the plants. Begin with one bubble in every other bend in the device and slowly increase the number over a period of several days as required. The pH value serves as a control value. Depending on the carbonate hardness, we recommend a pH value between 6.8 and 7.4. Further details are given in the product information sheet of the enclosed CO2 Permanent Test kit.

Installation:
1. The gas bottle should never be operated lying on its side or upside down standing on the protective cage! This may damage the pressure reducer!
2. Screw the pressure reducer on to the bottle valve. Tighten the connecting nut on the pressure reducer by hand only, do not use any tool. The sealing of the system does not depend on the tightness of the connection. Close the black dosage valve on the pressure reducer by turning clockwise (if not already closed).
3. Cut through the connecting hose using scissors and plug the loose ends over the safety valve (check the direction of flow).
4. Rinse the CO2-vario diffusion system in luke-warm tap water and attach vertically to the aquarium in a position with gentle water movement. The upper end should be about 2 cm under the surface of the water. The spaces between the individual modules should not be blocked by plants or decorative articles. Install the CO2 permanent test according to the enclosed instructions.
5. Attach the connecting hose to the hose screw connection of the pressure reducer.
6. Carefully open the gas bottle valve, then slowly open the black dosage valve on the pressure reducer and allow a small number of bubbles to flow through the CO2-vario diffusion system. The device requires a running-in time of about 48 hours! This time is required for a biofilm to form on the surface of the device, letting the bubbles pass through unhindered. Before this, the bubbles will flow sluggishly, occasionally combining to form large bubbles. The pressure reducer will indicate a gas bottle pressure of approx. 60 bar (at room temperature) and an operating pressure of approx. 1.5 bar, which is pre-set.
Maintenance:
The CO2-vario Diffusion System is made from grey-coloured makrolon, preventing virtually any algae settling in the bubble channel. Cleaning can be carried out when required using clean tap water. The device can be dismantled into its individual components by simply pulling the sections apart vertically. After cleaning, the sections can be simply put back together again. The catch on each module part should be correctly positioned to create a continuous channel for the bubbles.

Changing bottles:
When the bottle pressure begins to drop below 30 bar, the bottle should be disconnected and refilled, or changed for a full bottle. The pressure in the bottle is not an indication of the amount of CO2 contained in the bottle. This can only be ascertained by weighing. The pressure indicated only begins to fall when the bottle is practically empty.
Procedure: Close the bottle valve and wait until both pressure gauges indicate 0. Close the dosage valve on the pressure reducer. Unscrew the pressure reducer from the bottle and connect to a full bottle. Carefully open the bottle valve and re-set the number of bubbles required using the dosage valve on the pressure reducer.

Although the majority of aquarium-keepers start off with small aquariums of 60 liters, there seem to be more and more larger aquariums. In Europe, many aquarium-keepers expressed the wish that CO2 units should be suitable for use up to 500 liters without the need to buy extra parts. JBL has reacted and used the advantages of JBL CO2 fertilizer units which can be extended for use with almost any number of liters by simply fitting interspaced reactor modules. All JBL CO2 fertilizing units from the Profi 1, 2 and 3 range are now supplied with 2 additional JBL vario reactor modules, allowing plant-lovers to run the JBL CO2 units into aquariums of up to 500 liters (for CH up to 10 °GCH) or even up to 750 liters in softer water (up to CH 4 °GCH). Of course, the unit can still be extended even further by adding more JBL vario reactor modules. In the JBL Research and Development department laboratories, the JBL vario reactor has been successfully operated with additional vario modules in water volumes of up to 1000 liters at a CH of 10 °GCH!
