| Home | Aquarium Food and Equipment | Fish Food Fish Food Fish food is an essential part of keeping a successful aquarium. There are many varieties of ranging from the simple to the highly specialised. fresh is a new concept with vacuum packed sachets of the popular varieties suitable for single sessions to suppliment and existing diet of dry or frozen.
Holiday fish food has now become more responsible with the development of the gels and compressed tablets . You can still get the older stuff with lime and plaster in it but I strongly recommend that you use the new varities as they keep your aquarium water and fish in much better health and happiness.
Freeze dried is one of my favourites as it holds a very large amount of nutrients yet is convenient and has a long shelf life. This is the most expensive option and people use this to suppliment a staple diet of flake of pellets. The most staple forms of feeding are pellets or flake. You can get these in specialised types depending on the dietry requiremnts of your fish. There is often a large debate over flake or pellets but as far as im concerned as long as it is a good quality then it doesnt matter what you get.
There are many specialist types for different types of fish which provide specific dietry needs such as algae for herbivores or diets with a level of aquatics wood in them for plecsaid in the growth and development.
The two most basic forms of fish food are the flake and pellet. Flake is dried rolled up then chipped into a container and sealed for freshness. Pellet is the same dried up material except from being formed in slightly larger pellets which can either float or sink. I tend to use a mix of both to get the fish used to each form so that If I run out of one I dont have to get the fish used to the other. I also encourage people to use a basic general purpose food as well as a specilised one for the above reason.
There is a lot of variation in the qualities of these foods and we recommend that you go for a good brand to ensure the best health for your fish. Brands which I really like are sera and tetra but anything will sell will do a great job. We have most in stock and sent out as soon as the order arrives with us. |
