JBL TraceMarin 3 is a trace element supplement designed for use in marine aquaria run with protein skimmers. JBL TraceMarin 3 provides all 16 of the vital trace elements such as manganese, zinc, iron, nickel molybdenum, vanadium, rubidium and others required to meet the special needs of all hard corals, soft corals, bivalves and other invertebrates as well as calcareous algae in the reef aquarium. In order to avoid the incompatibility and reaction of certain elements with each other, JBL have formulated 3 products, which have been designed to be used in combination, to provide the best possible professional care for reef aquariums: JBL TraceMarin 1, 2 and 3. By using this series of trace elements aquarists have even had success growing the more complex seaweeds, such as Turbinaria and other rare types of algae. JBL TraceMarin 3 contains no colourings, additives or complex-forming ingredients (chelators), as these have proved to be problematical in the care of reef aquariums. Please refer to the product guidelines for the amounts to use and the optimum frequency of use.
Dosage: 7 ml per 100 litres of aquarium water once a week or 1 ml per 100 litres daily. This dosage is intended only as a guideline and may be varied according to your own observations. Factors which influence the dosage levels are: too small or over-large skimmer, over-large bio-filter or lack of bio-filter. Activated carbon should not be used permanently, but only for 3-5 days every 4-6 weeks as otherwise many trace elements will be constantly removed from your water. JBL has carefully formulated this range of water supplements to allow for the interactions of skimmers and filters with your tank water, so that there will still be sufficient trace elements left in the water in the optimum concentrations. Over-dosing with JBL TraceMarin 3 can be identified by observing the coral growth: after initial improvements in growth and colouring due to the addition of JBL TraceMarin 3, the corals may gradually revert to their original colour and their growth will stagnate. For ideal results we suggest the use of JBL TraceMarin 1, 2 and 3 in combination, with intervals of 2 - 5 minutes between each dose. JBL has developed three separate TraceMarin products as many trace elements interact with each other to produce insoluble solutions which would be ineffective or even act as pollutants. JBL TraceMarin 1, 2 and 3 should ideally be administered where the water current is strongest so that it is quickly dispersed. Direct application to corals and other animals should be avoided as the high concentration may cause damage. The JBL Trace range can also be supplemented by JBL CalciuMarin (supplying calcium) and JBL MagnesiuMarin (magnesium). Calcium and magnesium are not trace elements and must be added separately due to the high rate of consumption.
